Salt Water Taffy is a soft taffy originally produced in the Atlantic City, New Jersey, area beginning in the late-19th century. Despite the name it does not contain saltwater. The origins of the name are unknown; however there are many disputed stories. According to one popular story, a seaside candy store was flooded during a major storm and the resulting saltwater-logged taffy turned out to be delicious, and as a result Salt Water Taffy was born.
